Bruce's Web Genealogy

Genealogy has been an interest of mine for quite some time now.  With the help of books compiled on two branches of the family (the Webbers by Norma Van As and the Hartleys by Aileen Berrington) I had a good start.  Over the past ten years I have been collating dates, places, pictures and stories about my ancestors and compiling them using the software package Generations, by Sierra. This is a great program and I still highly recommend it, however Sierra have sold the software to Genealogy.com and they haven't updated things for a while now (the last version, V8.0 is NOT recommended for WinXP).

With a somewhat "mongrel" background (the eight members of our most recent three generations have been born in no less than six different countries on four continents), my ancestry has made for fascinating research indeed!  For those interested, the major family names I am researching include Webber, Miller, Field, Moller, Heuckendorff, Staff, Garrett, Hartley and Edwards.  Currently, I have documented well over 100 direct ancestors tracking back at least five generations in every branch (up to fourteen in one branch!) in addition to over 500 of their siblings and partners.

The downloadable pedigree chart will give you an overview of how it all fits together, while the web-based tree enables you to find out a bit more about each person.  If you think you are a distant relative or want to share more information, I'd love to hear from you.  Please email me and we can exchange information and further details!

"The Pig and Whistle" Inn, Bathurst, South Africa

"The Aarhuus" (Kiobenhavn)

"The Pig and Whistle", Bathurst, South Africa.

Built in 1832 by Thomas Hartley Snr. (as an addition to his York St forge), the inn was originally known as "Hartley's Inn".  It is stilll standing today as a National Monument known as "The Pig and Whistle" (named by the RAF during WWII).

"The Aarhuus" (Kiobenhavn).

This ship was sailed by Johann Joachim Heuckendorff  between the ports of  Melbourne, Australia, and Neuchwang, China in the 1860's and 1870's. He often carried tea to Australia, however it is unknown what he carried back to China....  Johann and Hester's first child, Charles, was born on the ship and was delivered by the first mate!
